MSUAA’s NEW ‘myIDsite’ PROTECTS AGAINST IDENTITY THEFT
LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Alumni Association announces its recent partnership with myIDsite, an affordable and comprehensive identity-theft program designed to increase members’ security through online education, prevention tips, and e-mail and e-newsletter alerts. In the event of theft, the program provides recovery resources, 24/7 customer assistance and a comprehensive computer-protection plan.

“Identity theft is rampant today,” explained MSUAA Interim Executive Director Stella Cash, whose own daughter was a victim of identity theft. “We are pleased to offer our alumni members and friends myIDsite as a benefit that promotes safety and peace of mind.”

Larry Harb, founder and CEO of IT Risk Managers in Okemos, which administers the program, added, “The myIDsite identity-theft product was designed to be the ‘gold standard’ of the industry, offering the highest levels of protection and security.”

In fact, 8.4 million people were victims of identity theft crimes in 2006, according to a study released in January 2007 by Javelin Strategy & Research, a Pleasanton, Calif., research firm. The Federal Trade Commission estimates that one in every eight consumers will fall victim to an identity theft event within the next five years.

“Awareness is the key to prevention,” Harb said, “and the myIDsite product promotes awareness and prevention. It also provides subscribers with recovery should they become a victim of identity theft.”

Subscribers are eligible for financial reimbursement of up to $25,000 per family member for out-of-pocket legal fees and miscellaneous expenses incurred while resolving an identity-theft event. Coverage extends to up to two adults and children under the age of 23 who permanently reside with the enrollee.
