Chicagoland Spartans Complete $25,000 Pledge for the Sparty Project
spartystatueplaque.jpgNo one can imagine an MSU campus without the Spartan Statue.  That’s why in 2003 the MSU Alumni Club of Metro Chicago made a pledge to raise $25,000 towards the refurbishment of the Spartan Statue.  We did it!  As of December 2007, the Club raised just over $25,000.  Thank you to every Chicagoland Spartan who made a donation to the Sparty Project.

The club raised the donation through a variety of fundraising efforts including auctions and raffles.  The single biggest effort was manning a concession stand at Soldier Field for a season.  Whether you had one of the early warm weather concerts or a late December night Bears game (brrr!), it had to be a memorable and bonding experience.  Steve Smith and his wife Millie were honorary chairs of the Sparty Project and thus the final donations came at the Membership Mixer in December where Steve was our special guest.

You can now find the original Spartan Statue inside the main entryway of the new Spartan Stadium addition.  An identical bronze replica stands in place of the original statue.  The total cost of the Sparty Project was $500,000.
