Info on tailgating in East Lansing |
|
EAST LANSING, Mich. --- It’s time once again for Spartan football fans to remember the numbers “7-9-1” as they gear up for one of the time-honored rites of autumn along the banks of the Red Cedar River – game-day tailgating on campus.
Throughout the season, if kickoff is set for noon or 1 p.m. -- like the first game against the University of Alabama-Birmingham, set for noon on Saturday, Sept. 1 -- tailgate lots will open at 7 a.m.
If kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m., campus tailgate lots will open at 9 a.m.
For evening games -- like the homecoming game against the University of Indiana, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 -- lots will open at 1 p.m.
Lots will remain open three hours after each game.
Spartan fans are reminded of the “open container” ordinance, adopted in 2005 by the MSU Board of Trustees. The ordinance bans open containers of alcohol on campus and in all public areas of campus buildings.
However, on home football game days, enforcement of the ordinance will be suspended on the main campus for those of legal drinking age, during the hours parking lots are open for tailgating. Munn Field remains alcohol-free, as do pedestrian areas immediately adjacent to Spartan Stadium.
MSU has no planned construction projects on campus roads that would affect football fans from finding their way to Spartan Stadium. All roads throughout campus are open to normal traffic.
