Sarah M. Cantwell is currently a Major Gift Officer for the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC). In her role, Sarah is responsible for the development and cultivation of a regional fundraising territory comprised of 12 states.
Prior to joining the USOC, Sarah was the Development Director at the SFP Foundation in New York City. She began her career by managing special events at Vista Maria, Michigan’s largest child welfare agency for girls and their families.
A Livonia, Michigan native, Sarah received a bachelor’s in Social Relations from James Madison College, followed by a Master’s in Public Administration from MSU. She recently graduated with a second master’s degree from Columbia University in Fundraising Management, and currently resides in the South Loop with husband, Matt, a fellow board member.
Since arriving at Michigan State in 2003, Jon has been committed to serving others in need. During his time at MSU, he was involved in numerous service projects from teaching elementary school children at the butterfly gardens to mentoring fellow Computer Science students. After graduating in 2007, Jon moved to India for six months to understand his place in the ever expanding global community. Even on the opposite side of the globe, he continued volunteering throughout the country to raise environmental awareness among young Indian adults.
In his career as a technology consultant, he develops custom software for Non-Profit organizations across the country to help them more effectively serve their clients. In his free time, he loves to travel with a focus on the outdoors and staying active. Aside from running and biking the Lake Shore trail, he frequently visits friends and family throughout the country and has even found himself camping at the bottom of the Grand Canyon (after a 26 mile hike!) Through it all, he remains deeply involved in the MSU community. After joining the Chicago Spartans board in 2014, Jon has focused his passion for service by organizing and leading the Community Outreach committee.
Matt, originally from Bloomfield Hills, MI graduated from the Eli Broad College of Business with dual Masters and Undergraduate Accounting degrees in 2004. He currently works in financial management for Easter Seals Inc. Matt serves as the Treasurer of the Chicago Spartans and is responsible for oversight of club funds and sits on the Executive Leadership team and chairs the Finance Committee.
Matt and his wife Sarah, a fellow board member, reside in Roscoe Village.
Kelsey graduated from MSU in December of 2012 with a Major in Marketing and Minor in Sales Specialization. While completing her undergrad at MSU, she competed in several sales competitions across the country on behalf of the university and was a part of the team that won the National Sales Competition for MSU in 2011. She is currently working as an Account Manager for an IT Staffing Firm. Kelsey is very active in giving back to her community and is also currently an Ambassador for the YWCA, a Board Member on the Associates Board of the Aids Foundation of Chicago and a Member of the Professional Women’s Club of Chicago.
In her free time, Kelsey enjoys to travel. Her goal is to hit every continent before she dies. She also enjoys boating, going to the beach, snowboarding, running and hanging out with family and friends. Her twin brother also lives in Chicago and she adores her dog, Autumn. Being originally from the East Lansing area, the football atmosphere on campus is something she looks forward to every year and travels home frequently in the fall to visit the Spartan community!
Graduated from Michigan State in 1998 with a BA in Finance and a BA in Public Administration. Originally from Mt. Pleasant, moved to Chicago in 2002. Graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 2009 and am in-house counsel at Tyson Foods, Inc. After a short time in Fayetteville, Arkansas working out of Tyson’s global headquarters, currently lives in Westmont (western suburb).
Jessica serves as co-chair of the Professional Development committee.

Prior to becoming well-regarded in the financial industry, Angela’s media background includes Host and Managing Editor of the Nationally Syndicated TV Show “First Business”, Political Correspondent for MSNBC during the 2004 Presidential Election, Prime-Time Anchor in Chicago for CLTV News and Reporter for WGN-TV. Awards include an Emmy for “Best Newscast” and an individual Emmy nomination.
September 14th, 2015, Angela launched the Nationally Syndicated TV Show “Business First AM” and serves as Host and Executive Producer.

Joe Michalak graduated from Michigan State in 2012 with a B.S. in Economics. He is currently a Sr. Financial Analyst at Northern Trust, and an MBA candidate at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Joe is originally from Commerce Twp., MI, and currently lives in Chicago’s Streeterville Neighborhood.
Beth Bergman graduated from MSU with her Master’s in Human Resources & Labor Relations in 1994. Her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas is in Communications. She is currently a Recruiter for Select Medical/Novacare. With the exception of 4 years with Sprint where she recruited for telecom related jobs, she has recruited for the healthcare field throughout her career.
She moved to Chicago after more than 30 years in Dallas, Texas including 15 years on both the Dallas-Fort Worth MSU Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Dallas Chapter of the University of Texas Alumni Association Board of Directors. Between the two organizations, she has served as Scholarship VP, Community Service VP, Intramurals Coordinator, Membership VP and on several committees. She also served for 8 years as the Red Wings-Stars game event coordinator including several years when we included our friends from U-M as part of the group. Beth lives in Lakeview.
Born and raised in Dallas, TX before attending Michigan State University in 2008. Graduated in 2013 with a BS in Applied Engineering Sciences. Moved to Houston, TX after graduating and worked in the oil and gas industry and waste water treatment industry. Decided to move to Chicago, IL in 2016 and currently am working in the wine and spirits industry with Beam Suntory.
Kelly O’Brien is an associate director of career management at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Through one-on-one coaching and program development and delivery, she assists MBA students and alumni in proactively driving their careers. She holds a BA from Michigan State University, an at-times comical love of grammar and punctuation, and a true passion for helping others on the path to self-discovery and development.
Jessica Paski holds a Masters in Human Resources from DePaul University and currently works in Talent Acquisition and Development with a major manufacturing company in downtown Chicago.
Jessica graduated from MSU in 2010 with a degree in Human Resources Management. She then moved to Chicago in June of 2010 to pursue her career in Human Resources at the world’s largest steel manufacturer, ArcelorMittal. She has transitioned through different positions beginning with College Recruiting, moving to a Human Resource Generalist role, and is now currently working in Talent Acquisition and Development. During this time Jessica has also earned her Master’s Degree in Human Resources at DePaul University.
Through her involvement with the Chicago Spartans, Jessica is also a member of the Membership Engagement Committee, helping to plan various Chicago Spartans events throughout the year. In her free time, she enjoys running, Bikram Yoga, trying new restaurants, and traveling as far and as often as possible.
Chris graduated from Lyman Briggs in 2007 with a degree in Environmental Science and Management and currently lives in the Wicker Park neighborhood with his wife Erin and dog Murphy. Working alongside Jon Labaj, Chris is a Chair on the club’s Community Outreach committee and is focused on creating opportunities for Chicago Spartans to engage in volunteerism and sustainability efforts around the city. Chris currently works as a Senior Underwriter for OneBeacon Environmental in the Loop and is always looking to network and meet other local Spartans!
Mike Potts graduated from Michigan State in 2011 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He is currently a process control engineer for Avon Products, while also pursuing an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mike now lives in the Lincoln Park neighborhood where he is an avid (that’s putting it lightly) game watch attendee (When he can’t make it back to EL to use his season football tickets) and loves meeting other Spartans and sharing the camaraderie Mike is a co-chair of the community outreach committee, helping organize volunteer events around the city. As a die-hard Spartan, he enjoys spreading the good word about the best University the world has to offer. Go Green!!
PaulSwanson, a 1989 graduate with a BA in Advertising with an emphasis in music, is a residential real estate broker for Baird & Warner and has recently represented several Chicago area Spartans in the buying and selling of their property.
Prior to entering real estate, Paul spent 25 years in the music industry promoting new artists, working with Grammy Award winning musicians and negotiating and managing multi-million dollar tour sponsorships for Fortune 500 companies. He has been fortunate to have worked with many terrific artists, but strongly feels that the current rock stars have names like Izzo, Dantonio and Merchant.
Paul resides in Park Ridge with his wife and two daughters. Married over 20 years, he married his high school sweetheart (who is a Hawkeye) but his wife is adamant that Sparty is the best college representative in the nation. His two daughters (18 and 15) have followed Paul‘s love for all things Spartan.
Briana is a native of Flint, MI and over the past four years is proud to call Chicago her home. She graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the College of Human Ecology and holds a Master of Science in Health Education from The University of Michigan-Flint.
Previously she held a duel position as a clinical and food service nutrition director in multiple psychiatric long term care and skilled care facilities. Currently she is approaching her first year as an entrepreneur.
Briana finds time to be active in her church and with various service, professional, and nonprofit organizations such as Chicago cares. When she’s looking for a spare moment to relax, you can find her socializing with friends or going to spin class.
Matthew A. Krauss (Matt) is responsible for account management at stadiums, venues, hotels, casinos, and large regional/national hospitality groups with the Great Lakes On-Premise team at MillerCoors.
Previously, Matt was the Operations Director at US Cellular Field for Delaware North Sportservice over-looking hospitality and retail merchandise for the Chicago White Sox and then holding the position Director of Operations and Assistant General Manager at CenturyLink Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks, Sounders, and WaMu Theatre. He also assisted in operations at Target Field (Twins), Soldier Field (Bears), Lambeau Field (Packers), Miller Park (Brewers), and Comerica Park (Tigers).
Matt (BA ’05) attended the University of Alabama & Michigan State University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the School of Hospitality Business in Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University with specialized studies in finance and marketing. At Michigan State, Matt was the Vice President and House Manager of the Michigan Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon. During his post-graduate years he has taken professional courses & development programs sponsored by Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies and the Harvard Business School Executive Education.
A resident of the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago, Matt enjoys golf, city life, movies, & people watching. He finds it rewarding consulting the Michigan State Alumni Association in Chicago. He has Sommelier and Cicerone certifications and consistently expanding his beer knowledge through the Beer Merchant program (placing 2nd in both his 101 and 201 class).
